Farewell, EU-Versand 💔🇪🇺
On the 4th of August 2026, the last EU parcels for private customers left our warehouse. And honestly: it still feels pretty awful.
Many of you had been ordering from us for years. Some names kept appearing again and again, some of you wrote to us, sent us photos or later told us at events about the adventures you had with our mead.
But now, we have had to stop direct shipping to private customers in other European countries completely.
Not because we wanted to.
Not because your orders did not matter to us.
But because of a new EU Packaging Regulation now coming into force (PPWR, Regulation (EU) 2025/40).
The effort and costs are simply no longer reasonable for medium-sized retailers. Many online shops are currently taking the same step, and for quite a few of them, this has become a serious threat to their business.
For every single EU country, registrations, licensing, packaging reports, fees, deadlines, portals and national requirements now have to be checked and followed to a much greater extent than before. Depending on the country, local authorised representatives may also be required, meaning official contacts within that country for these obligations.
And all of this applies regardless of quantity. In some cases, even for countries where only a few parcels are shipped per year.
It has to be said clearly: On paper, intra-European trade is supposed to become easier. In practice, rules like this lead to small and medium-sized businesses stopping cross-border shipping, while the big players can simply absorb the costs and/or pass them on to their customers.
We had hoped for a long time that this would still be suspended, postponed or made more practical. Unfortunately, it was not.
One small consolation: In some EU countries, such as Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands, you will still be able to find us through wholesale partners. Within Germany and outside the EU, we will of course continue shipping as usual.
